IT'S a turf life, but also a clean one.

The Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI), the UK's leading independent authority in turf grass, has praised Rowlawn, of Elvington near York, for the quality of its top-selling Medallion turf.

The institute's research agronomy and consultancy division has confirmed that the Rolawn product is "consistently of the highest standard".

An extensive assessment of the botanical composition, general condition and appearance of the turf was carried out by biologists in September.

Their report concluded: "The Rolawn Medallion turf was uniform in appearance, free of diseases and presented to a very high standard.

"It was also extremely clean. We failed to find any broadleaved weeds or weed grasses in the 5,000 spot botanical assessments made.

"Given the very difficult growing conditions experienced during the summer of 2006, it is difficult to understand how Rolawn have maintained their very high standards, but they have."

The report also pointed out that, in ten years of independent assessments, the quality of Rowlawn's turf had never slipped.

Cedric McMillan, Rolawn's sales and marketing director, said: "It is no coincidence that Rolawn Medallion was incorporated into seven gold medal winning exhibits at RHS Chelsea and has recently been used by some of the countries leading landscapers at the BALI National Landscape Awards."

Rowlawn, which cultivates 3,500 acres of turf within a 15-mile radius of Elvington, employs 150 people at peak times. Its Medallion turf is used in thousands of private gardens, royal parks, and various sports grounds.
