Superbreak Mini-Holidays, the successful York-based provider of UK and European short breaks, will be packing its bags and moving out of Ryedale House, in Piccadilly, York, into new £13 million offices being built half-a-mile away at Heworth Green.

The decision to move the firm's 250 full and part-time staff comes as a big question mark hangs over the future of Ryedale House, which could be included in a new Coppergate 2 development.

Superbreak, part of the £150 million turnover Holidaybreak plc, which counts camping holiday company Eurocamp and Explore!, in its portfolio, has booked 20,000sq ft office space within the planned 60,000sq ft mixed-use Heworth Green development by The Helmsley Group.

When the move takes place in December, 2007, Superbreak's neighbours in the new complex will be Hunters Property Group, which has also taken 20,000sq ft.

While providing breaks for more than 1.75 million customers yearly, Superbreak also generates about 30,000 visitors to the city alone annually.

Mark Wray, joint managing director, said: "We are increasing our square footage by about 20 per cent.

"That gives us the potential to take on 20 more jobs over the next few years.

"It was important for us to remain close to the city centre, to allow our staff the widest choice of transport links to their place of work."

The planned move has delighted Coun Steve Galloway, leader of City of York Council.

He said: "It demonstrates the underlying strengths of the York economy and will help to counter some of the pessimism that recent announcements may have generated."

Meanwhile, Helmsley director Richard Peak reports the site at Heworth Green is proving popular.

Helmsley is in final negotiations with a GP surgery and pharmacy, which is looking to take 10,000sq ft, leaving just 10,000sq ft of the building to be let.
