SKIN and hair care brand Kiehl’s has opened a new shop at 21 Stonegate.
The company, which was founded as an apothecary in New York’s East Village neighbourhood more than 156 years ago, now produces natural skin care and hair care products and will employ three people in its York branch.
James Rickards, general manager of Kiehl’s UK & Ireland, said: “Kiehl’s has been in New York since 1851 so I think it’s high time we came to the original York.
“We’ve been growing our business and opening new stores with huge success for several years now, but we don’t want to open just anywhere. It’s really important to us that we find a home that reflects our brand values. We’re modern but we have a strong sense of our historical roots, just like York.
“The new store will take the best of east-side village New York and bring it to the middle of York’s historical centre. It’s going to be an amazing place to be and to shop.”
