AT THE chamber we know that in order to make your business better we need to ensure that our members have access to the key influencers in British business and politics. This is why we arrange regular events where members can come along to hear from these individuals and find out more about the latest business developments and what is happening in our region.

In December we have two opportunities for you to hear from some of the country’s most influential people. First up on Friday, December 4, we have Steven Norris speaking at our York annual lunch, which is taking place at the Royal York Hotel.

Steven is the executive chairman of Jarvis PLC, one of York’s largest employers. However, you may remember him better as the Conservative Minister for Transport and former candidate for London Mayor. Transport is obviously a key issue in York, so no doubt Steven will have a lot of enlightening things to say, as well as a few interesting tales from his time in politics. Shaun Watts, president of the York and North Yorkshire chamber will also be speaking at the lunch, and as well as reflecting on his first year in presidency, he will be telling guests about the new and exciting changes occurring in the chamber.

The second event is a meeting with Vince Cable MP, which has been organised by the chamber and is taking place on December 11 at York St John University. This event really is a must, as throughout the recession Mr Cable provided astute insight into the economic troubles, and while he has been critical of the current practices in the financial industry, he was always the first to offer pragmatic solutions for recovery and suggest new measures to prevent a similar crisis happening again.

To book a place on either of these events please phone the York office on 01904 567838.
