A LEGAL duo with more than 30 years combined experience are surpassing expectations with their new new venture.

Torque Law, which is entering the Small Business of the Year and New Business of the Year categories, saw set up in 2016 and after fulfilling its predicted turnover within months of launch, has since shown tremendous growth.

Now having started its third full year of trading, the firm’s second office expansion is imminent and they plan to double their headcount over the next 12 months.

Tiggy Clifford and Emma Whiting joined forces to set up employment law specialist Torque Law after leaving high profile partner roles at Denison Till and Addleshaw Goddard respectively. Ms Clifford was also previously a director and head of Employment at Newtons.

By actively ‘“stepping into the shoes of their clients”, sitting down with them and pursuing a jargon-free, pragmatic approach, Torque Law has been highly successful from its Nether Poppleton offices.

Practice manager Cathryn Sutherland said: “They have attracted significant market share from larger Yorkshire and London based firms by offering partner expertise with personal service and great value.

“With a recognised ability to ‘parachute in’ to fast developing situations, as well as performing key ‘in-house’ functions, Tiggy and Emma adopt a flexible and tailored approach.

“Through their broader network of trusted contacts, they provide a seamless 360-degree employment law service including HR and occupational health advice and forensic financial support.”

Both working mums of primary-aged children, Ms Clifford and Ms Whiting are also focused on highly agile and modern working practices. They operate a predominantly paperless office with cloud-based systems meaning they can access client files and case notes wherever they are.

As well as a good work-life balance they are keen to innovate and add value for clients through initiatives such as employment law education. They also support several local charities.
