A VINEYARD and brewery is generating new business beyond its bottled goods.

Since planting its first vines in 2006 the Yorkshire Heart business and team continues to grow from strength to strength, now boasting 14 acres planted with 22,000 vines, producing 30,000 bottles of award winning wine from grape to glass within their own winery.

The vineyard opened its doors to visitors officially from 2014 and has seen a huge increase in the number of visitors for tours and tastings over the last four years.

Following its success as an attraction, Yorkshire Heart has put itself forward as a contender for the Retail, Tourism and Leisure Business of the Year award, as well as in the Small Business of the Year category.

The business has enjoyed continued visitor number growth recently with the addition of a wine house building in 2017 meaing the team was no longer forced to close over the winter months and visitors of all ages continue to flock over the winter months for tastings, dinners, light lunches and afternoon teas.

The business employs seven full time and two part time members of staff.

Karen Metcalfe, events manager at Yorkshire Heart, said: “We are a vineyard based in the heart of Yorkshire who have a really great story of how it all began as a hobby and have turned it in to a thriving business

“All of our wines are produced from grape to glass right here in Nun Monkton, even our sparkling wines are produced in house through the champagne method, and we are the only Yorkshire vineyard doing this in house.

“The business is family run and the owners do all the tours themselves rather than employing someone - no one can tell their story better than them.

“The whole team have an amazing passion, love and knowledge for the beauty of the place they work and this really shines through and is often commented on by visitors.

“We have worked so hard over the last 12 years to create a magical place to visit with a real story behind it.

“The whole team are fully committed to Yorkshire Heart and their passion really shines through, the owners are real people with an amazing story which has a lot of highs and a lot of lows over the years but their grit and determination is finally paying off as they are producing amazing products in the heart of Yorkshire and just love to tell people.”
