Building firm Evora Construction has been nominated for The Press Business Awards 2017, Socially Responsible Business of the Year

EVORA Construction Ltd is a privately owned construction company based in Clifton Moor that actively engages in community projects and embraces ethical business practices.

The successful firm was formed in 2009 at the height of the recession and is owned jointly by York residents Richard Elam and Mark Reynolds.

In the company’s day to day operation of construction projects it actively encourages ethical business practices through its staff, either directly employed, or subcontractors through its supply chain.

The business is a member of North Yorkshire Construction Training Group and invests in training for upskilling or maintaining compliance in important health & safety aspects of the industry.

It has employed an accounting apprentice for the last two years, as part of the growing head office team.

The business gives talks to school children where its projects come into contact with them to promote construction health and safety and run poster design competitions on site safety/dangers.

For over six years Evora Construction has been an active partner business of York Cares, an organisation committed to making York a better place through employee-volunteering.

The business has been involved mainly with the Big Community Challenge but has also supported many charities and participated in the Starting Blocks programme that provides supported work experience and introduction opportunities for young people in care within the city.

Evora Construction director Mr Elam said “Being involved in the work on the Big Community Challenges held each year has been very enjoyable and we have had great satisfaction in making dreams come true for many of the community projects that otherwise most probably would have never happened."

"Our proudest moment in charity work was the significant part we played in raising £50,000 for York resident and The Press Community Pride winner, Poppy Wadsworth, in 2015 to have a life changing operation in the United States."
