DIRECT from the West End and Broadway, Patrick Barlow's highspeed adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's spy thriller The 39 Steps arrives at York Theatre Royal on March 25 for a five-day run.
Premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds, in June 2005, Barlow's show went on to win the Best New Comedy prize at the Olivier Awards.
In his inventive, gripping comedy thriller, directed by Maria Aitken, four fearless actors play 1,311 characters in 100 minutes, along the way recreating death-defying scenes from Hitchcock's 1935 film version of John Buchan's novel.
The hero of the piece, the lost, lonely and depressed Richard Hannay, is armed only with standard-issue British gung-ho, stiffupper lip and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing agents and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women.
Evening performances start at 7.30pm, complemented by a Thursday matinee at 2pm and Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 to £19 on 01904 623568 or www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
