York Settlement Players return to The Studio at York Theatre Royal from February 20 to March 1 to present the York premiere of David Hare's Amy's View.
Hare poses an important question for everyone who cares about theatre: "What's the future for theatre in an age when television dominates?" The play is, however, much more than an intellectual or political debate.
At its heart is the relationship between West End actress Esme and her daughter Amy. Amy's new man, Dominic, who seems destined for a career as a media producer and presenter, is the catalyst for a series of crises in Esme and Amy's relationship.
Add to this the influence of Esme's late husband, the presence of his ageing mother, and the city financier next door who takes a close interest in Esme's life, and a rich cocktail of conflict and passion is whisked up in a play that spans 1979 to 1995.
Co-directed by Graham Sanderson and his wife Sue Skirrow, Amy's View features a cast of former Lord Mayor of York Shan Braund as Esme; company newcomers Christina Nobbs as Amy and Andy Curry as Dominic; Barbara Miller as Evelyn; Toby Gordon as Toby; and Hugh Dower as Frank.
Performances start at 7.45pm and tickets can be booked on 01904 623568 or online at www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
