St George’s Catholic Church was founded in 1850 by Irish Catholic immigrants to the Walmgate area of York. It was designed by Joseph Hansom and was the proto Cathedral of the diocese of Middlesbrough. It is now a very popular and cosmopolitan inner city church.
One of the first things to catch a visitor's eye on entering St Michael-le-Belfrey Church, on the south side of the Minster, is an enlarged page from the registers, which began in 1565 and are complete.
