War weekend a big hit

THE rumble of dozens of military vehicles could be heard near York this weekend as the annual Battlegroup North And Military Wheels And Wings Show took place.
The event at the Yorkshire Air Museum – the biggest of its kind in the North of England – attracted enthusiasts from all across the UK and beyond, as some 200 wartime jeeps, trucks, artillery, armoured vehicles and full-size tanks went on display for the two-day event.
One of the highlights was a salute to the Queen on both Saturday and Sunday, provided by field artillery guns.
Among the military vehicles on display were an Austin K2 Ambulance and Special Tilly vehicles which the young Princess Elizabeth worked on during her wartime service with the Auxiliary Territorial Service.
Museum spokesman Ian Richardson said: “It was a fantastic turnout. Obviously we have great weather and the reaction has been superb.”
