The top 12 contestants on this year's series of American Idol have been revealed.
The last 16 wannabes performed in front of the judges - Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi - and millions of viewers earlier this week in a bid to win a place in the final.
After the votes were counted it was revealed that the two girls and two boys leaving the US TV talent show were Lilly Scott, Katelyn Epperly, Alex Lambert and Todrick Hall.
Lilly appeared to be stunned when her name was announced. "I thought I did really well. I put my heart into every performance," said the 20-year-old.
Alex, 19, looked downcast and tearful when he learned his fate. "There's a lot of things America hasn't seen me do yet," he said, adding: "I wish could just have broken out of my shell."
Judge Ellen gave him a verbal pat on the back. "You're so good. Don't ever stop believing in yourself," she said.
The six girls remaining in the competition are Katie Stevens, 17, Crystal Bowersox, 24, Siobhan Magnus, 20, Lacey Brown, 24, Paige Miles, 24, and 23-year-old Didi Benami.
The top six boys include Michael "Big Mike" Lynche, 26, who has been a favourite with the panel. The others who made the cut are Andrew Garcia, 24, Casey James, 27, Tim Urban, 20, Aaron Kelley, 16 and 23-year-old Lee Dewyze.
