Bar Convent

The Bar Convent is an elegant Georgian building (1787) located close to the railway station and is convenient for the city centre.

It houses a beautiful neo-classical chapel built in 1769 and was designed by Thomas Atkinson.

The Bar Convent Museum outlines the history of Christianity in the North of England and also tells the story of Mary Ward, the foundress of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
