Knights draw with Batley

NEW recruit Gareth Greenwood scored the opening try for York City Knights reserves last night to stake a claim for a first-term berth against Oldham on Sunday.

The former Huddersfield hooker played at scrum-half against Batley reserves in a game - the first of the new reserve championship division one season - which saw the lead change hands several times before ending 20-20. Batley led 14-6 after half-time and 20-16 late on, before York centre Matt Danville profited from an error to hack the ball forward and score his first try for the club to equalise.

Teenager Mark Wilson, outstanding at full-back, scored and converted a fine solo try, and second-row Joe Maud also crossed for the Knights.

Luke Watling, passed fit to play at loose-forward, added the first conversion, but just missed with the last attempt from wide out.

Meanwhile, the Knights Supporters' Club Events Crew are holding an on-the-road race night at the Nag's Head, in Heworth, tomorrow. The first race is at 8.30pm. All are welcome. Money raised will go towards their target of giving £20,000 to the Knights' squadbuilder fund.
