JACK LEE collected his Press Player of the Month award ahead of last week’s game against Oxford - and he has duly kept a commanding lead in the Press Player of the Year standings.

Jack Aldous, like Lee a former Press Player of the Year, was the man to stand up and be counted most that day, being named our man of the match in what was a disappointing defeat. He therefore picks up three points for his 2014 player of the year tally.

But Lee was deemed our second best player so collected two points to keep him clear going into last night’s game at Gateshead.

Dual-reg full-back Ben Reynolds was our third best player last week (1pt) so gets onto the leaderboard.

The Press Player of the Year leaderboard: Lee 10pts, Paterson 5, Aldous 4, Presley 4, P Smith 3, Bell 3, Haynes 3, B Hardcastle 2, Minikin 1, Morrison 1, E Smith 1, Mallinder 1, Reynolds 1.

A FORMER Press Player of the Year, Rob Spicer, meanwhile, had a notable milestone in store as he headed into the Easter weekend - 200 career appearances in the domestic professional game.

The 29-year-old played 46 times for Wakefield (2002-2005) and 52 for York (2006-2008) - during which time he won personal accolades aplenty including the Press award - and he has recently passed the century mark for current club Dewsbury Rams.

Thinking back, his figure of 200 would be a lot bigger had he not suffered the injuries that blighted his otherwise excellent time at Huntington Stadium.

THIS Knights diary column possibly owes Ben Dent an apology, especially if you believe in the commentator’s (or in this case correspondent’s) curse.

We mentioned, ahead of last week’s loss to Oxford, how the winger had become the only player in all three professional divisions to have a scored a try in each of his team’s games so far this term - in his case, five in five.

We then wrote: “What are the odds that the 22-year-old former New Earswick All Blacks amateur will continue that scoring sequence tomorrow?”

It was always going to put the mockers on it, wasn’t it.
