SIMON BROWN’S spectacular return to form in York City Knights’ win over Doncaster saw him climb the table in The Press Player of the Year standings.
Superb kicking meant he was awarded all three points as The Press’ man of the match in the 40-12 success, with hat-trick hero Ben Johnston only narrowly missing out on the top prize but still grabbing two points – and putting him on the leaderboard for the first time.
Adam Sullivan, whose consistent season has drawn superlatives from Knights head coach Gary Thornton, grabbed the final point, which sees him continue to put the pressure on leader Jonny Presley.
Meanwhile, two Press Player of the Month awards were handed out last weekend, with Tom Carr receiving the accolade for April and Presley scooping the May gong.
The Press Player of the Year standings: Presley 14pts, Carr 12, Sullivan 12, Scott 10, Aldous 10, Lee 9, Brown 6, Nicholson 8, Ford 8, Brown 8, Hadley 3, Lineham 3, Lyons 3, Johnston 2, Smith 2, Golden 2, Bowden 2, Dent 2, Elliott 1, Potter 1, Kent 1, Brining 1.
