York City Knights add Ollie Olds to squad for Keighley Cougars clash

NEW half-back Ollie Olds is in contention for York City Knights’ Co-operative Championship clash at Keighley Cougars.

The 18-year-old scrum-half, who has signed on dual registration terms from Leeds Rhinos, joined up with his new team-mates at Huntington Stadium and could win a place in player-coach Chris Thorman’s squad on Sunday.

The Rhinos have assured the Knights they won’t call back the Welsh international until after York play Halifax on August 12 – at the earliest.

Olds, who is from Bridgend, was part of the Crusaders academy before joining the Rhinos on trial last year. He later signed on a permanent basis and has been the regular scrum-half in the Headingley club’s under-20s team.

Ian Wilson, Knights general manager, said: “Ollie has been in outstanding form for the Rhinos U20s and was rewarded with a call-up to the full Welsh international squad just last month where he was impressive against an experienced France team.

“We are delighted to welcome him to the club.”

• A strong looking Knights Reserves will take on Halifax tonight (kick-off 8pm) at Huntington Stadium.

Brett Turner, Rhys Clarke and Kris Brining are all included in the squad.

Entry is free for season ticket holders and vice-presidents on production of the 2012 season ticket booklet, otherwise it is £4 adults and £1 U16s. Entry to the ground is via Bar 13 through main reception.
