Knights Coach hails battlers in wake of Featherstone Rovers woe

MICK RAMSDEN reckoned York City Knights would have got off the mark in the Co-operative Championship had they played a lesser light this weekend.
The injury-hit Knights battled like Trojans away to champions Featherstone to hold onto a 14-0 half-time lead but four tries in the last 12 minutes saw Rovers, playing down the notorious Post Office Road slope, turn around a 14-10 deficit to eventually triumph 34-14.
It left York with eight defeats from eight league games, though assistant-boss Ramsden was adamant a win was not far away.
He said: “I feel for the players because of the effort they put in against a very good Featherstone team.
“They (Fev) have been hot and cold but they fired against Castleford and Wigan (in the Challenge Cup), and our boys put in a hell of a show in that first half in particular. It was pretty much our best half of the season, and it was unfortunate we ran out of steam in the end.
“A win has to be around the corner. After the last game against Sheffield (an unlucky 25-18 defeat), we could have done with a game against a Swinton or a Dewsbury rather than one of the best teams in the league.”
