CHRIS THORMAN believes York City Knights are well equipped to overcome the shock suspension of head coach James Ratcliffe – if they all club together.
Player/assistant-boss Thorman has been put in caretaker charge of the Knights until March 25, when Ratcliffe returns from a ban imposed by the Rugby Football League just days before the 2010 Championship One season starts.
The Knights play their Northern Rail Cup opener at Rochdale on Sunday and former England international Thorman believes they can overcome the adversity of being without their chief for eight games.
“We’re going to be one member of the coaching staff down for two months and we’ve asked the senior players to step up to the mark to support me and help me through,” he said.
“From what I’ve experienced in the last few months, we’ve got a really good senior player group. There are people like Joe McLocklan, Richard Blakeway, Alex Benson, Mark Applegarth, Carl Barrow and Danny Ratcliffe, who can all definitely help me.
“I’m very confident in the players and in their ability, and in the people that are around me.”
