DEADLINE day recruit Zeus Silk has left York City Knights.

The 19-year-old second-row, a last-minute loan signing on transfer deadline day in July, trained this week and was in line to play in Sunday's League One Super 8s match at Whitehaven, but he has decided to "call it a day", having been released by parent club Hull FC.

Knights boss James Ford explained: "He's not been enjoying his time at York for one reason or another. I think he's coming to terms with not being full-time. His dream was to play for Hull but he now has to combine work with part-time rugby. It's a challenge.

"He's still got a great attitude and the potential to make an impact and I'm sorry it's not worked out for him at York.

"We wish him all the best. If he decides to carry on playing, hopefully he'll get to fulfil his dreams another way."

Silk made a surprise debut in the stunning win over champions elect Toronto at the end of July and also played in the loss at Keighley a week later but an injury picked up in training ruled him out thereafter.

Ford added: "He just needs to take stock and reflect where he is and how he can get to where he wants to be.

"It's a loss for us. Zeus was not in our first-choice 17 but was an important part of the squad.

"He always worked hard and always listened. It's disappointing he's gone but that's life and you move on."
