YORK City Knights have offered speedster Callum Lancaster a deal to stay at the club permanently - but he could well be fielding approaches from elsewhere as he decides his future.

The 20-year-old winger has played twice and been 18th man once for York during a one-month trial, the highlight being a cracking try in the big win over Coventry when catching a kick at full pace down the right flank.

But he is not included in the Knights' 19-man squad for tomorrow's League One visit of London Skolars as he mulls over his offer, his trial period now over.

Head coach James Ford: "We've spoken to him and he'll have time to think over what we've said and get back to us. We don't want to put pressure on him."

Lancaster, a former England Academy flier, was labelled a Hull wonderkid when he breezed onto the Super League scene with two quickfire hat-tricks as a 17-year-old in 2014.

He made only one top-tier appearance in both 2015 and 2016, though, with his only other senior appearance in that time coming on dual-reg for Doncaster in a League One Cup defeat to London Skolars.

He bagged 19 tries for Hull’s reserves last year but, amid dwindling first-team prospects this term, he was released by the Airlie Birds in April, with York offering him a trial.

Asked if rival clubs were likely to have approached him, Ford said: "I've not spoken to him about that but it wouldn't surprise me if others are interested in him. We'll let him make his own decision."

Meanwhile, Ford has not ruled out seeing try-machine Nick Rawsthorne back at Bootham Crescent this season - although he cannot rule it in either.

Rawsthorne was a candidate for The Press Player of the Month after scoring six tries and 10 goals in York's three games in May, taking his try tally on loan at the club to eight in five appearances.

But he was recalled by parent club Hull FC for last week's Super League double-header against Leigh and Catalans, playing in both and scoring twice in the latter, and has kept his place in the Airlie Birds' squad for tonight's clash with Wigan.

Injuries and suspensions have contributed to his rise up the pecking order there and it remains to be seen if Hull send the 21-year-old out again or keep him firmly in the first-team frame.

Ford said: "He gave us some strike on the edges, with his pace and footwork. He's got stuff to improve on but he's got a bright future.

"We would like him to come back and continue his development here but he's a Hull player and I'm sure Radders (Hull boss Lee Radford) will facilitate his development really well and, if we do get him back, we'll get an even better player.

"We haven't ruled it out but we can't rule it in.

"I will have conversations with Lee later down the line."

With Lancaster and Rawsthorne not involved, Ford has recalled Dee Foggin-Johnston and Nev Morrison to the wing and centre respectively for tomorrow's Bootham Crescent clash. The former missed the trip to Newcastle last time out due to personal commitments.

“Dee was not dropped on form," said Ford of the 20-year-old. "Due to the nature of his personal commitments, we didn't feel it was right to ask him to play. I’m really pleased to bring him back into the team and I’m sure he'll want to continue the form from where he left off.”

On Morrison, who has sat out the last two games, Ford said: “He didn’t do an awful lot wrong. I just thought there was a little extra in him and he’s got the opportunity back in the team now. The ball’s in his court.

“If he performs like I know he can do, he’ll stay in there. He’s more than capable of being one of our best players."
