YORK City Knights forward Adam Robinson has signed a one year extension to his contract at Bootham Crescent.

The former Halifax prop joined the Knights on a one year deal this season but is now staying until the end of 2018.

Robinson, who celebrated his 30th birthday last weekend, has been one of the stand-out performers for James Ford's side and will return to action against Doncaster tomorrow after missing the Oxford defeat with a hamstring injury.

He admits that moving to York has helped restore his 'passion' for rugby league after falling down the pecking order at Championship club Halifax.

"I’m excited to sign a further year at York City Knights," he said. "The club and fans have shown me nothing but support since I first came to the city. I’ve enjoyed every minute, so far, and I want those times to continue.

"Continuing to help the young players in our group grow in training and lead from the front on a match day is something that has enabled me to get my passion back for rugby league," he added.

Robinson, who celebrated his 30th birthday last weekend, now wants to repay the loyalty of Knights owner Jon Flatman and coach.

"I would like to thank Jon and 'Fordy' for their support in getting this deal over the line. Hopefully I can repay that faith on the field," he said.

"The club has real passion and intent to be successful and I want to be part of that journey. The facilities are as good as any I’ve seen and the playing group is getting better each week. Securing my future with York means I can focus on the playing side."

Ford, meanwhile, expressed his delight at Robinson's new deal saying: "It’s great to see him back playing to a good level and it’s great to see him happy and also taking up plenty of leadership responsibilities.

"He’s a senior player in the group and has been playing like a senior player. In practice, he’s helping the younger boys in their development. I can’t speak highly enough of what he’s brought to the group.

"I do feel there’s another level in him and it’s up to me and Adam to get that out of him," he added. "When we do, we’ll have one heck of a player."

The Knights will host Doncaster tomorrow (3pm) seeking a return to winning ways after back-to-back League One defeats against North Wales Crusaders and Oxford.
