BIRTHDAY boy Adam Robinson is The Press York City Knights Player of the Month for March.

The former Halifax prop, who turns 30 today, was one of the better players in the League One loss at Barrow at the start of March, and a major influence in the victory over South Wales to such an extent the Knights may not have won without him.

He again shone in the Challenge Cup shock against Rochdale and continued that form against North Wales - his absence through injury in the last quarter a major factor as the Crusaders fought back to win.

Also in the running for the award were Joe Batchelor and Harry Tyson-Wilson, while dual-reg ace Liam Harris may have been up there had he played more than twice.

Head coach James Ford said of Robinson: “It’s great to see him back playing to a good level, and it’s great to see him happy and also taking up plenty of leadership responsibilities.

“He’s a senior player in the group and has been playing like a senior player.

“Also in practice he’s helping the younger boys in their development. I can’t speak highly enough of what he’s brought to the group.

“I do feel there’s another level in him and it’s up to me and Adam to get that out of him. When we do, we’ll have one heck of a player.”

The Player of the Month award sees Robinson pick up three points for his Player of the Year tally, lifting him to joint top of the leaderboard.

Press Player of the Year standings: E Smith 7, Robinson 7, Porter 5, Spears 5, Batchelor 4, Hey 3, H Tyson-Wilson 3, Robson 2, Ellis 1, Presley 1, Harris 1.
