YORK City Knights boss James Ford has intimated he won't be afraid to change a winning team if he feels it would suit the challenges afoot.

All 17 players who starred in last week's shock Ladbrokes Challenge Cup win over Championship side Rochdale are again in the 19-man match-day party for Sunday's revenge mission against North Wales Crusaders.

But fit-again middle-man Chris Siddons – who is back available much sooner than anticipated from the ankle injury suffered at the end of February – is also added and is very much in contention for a return to action as the Knights seek to build momentum into their League One campaign on the back of last week's notable scalp.

Ford was leaving it late to decide his team. "It's a really tough one," he said.

"Chris has trained all week to a good level. He brings a lot of qualities to the team and he can play big minutes if we need that to happen.

"But everyone from one to 17 played really well last week and anyone who finds himself left out will be hard done by.

"That does not mean I won't make changes."

Tommy Brierley is also in the 19-man party and likewise is in contention.

North Wales beat the Knights on the opening day of the season thanks to a golden-point drop goal in extra time of their League One Cup tie at Bootham Crescent, having levelled the scores with a touchline conversion on the hooter – in a match which should have been dead and buried long before then.

But the York team tomorrow will show up to eight changes from that day five weeks ago. Crusaders will have a fair few too.

Asked if vengeance was on his mind, Ford said: "What's in our minds is a good performance and building momentum in the league.

"It's important we do that. What we've said this week is that, as a team, you are what you continually do.

"We want to be a good team and we want to build a good club, and we need to strive for consistency and be consistently good. We don't want to be inconsistent or up and down.

"As a collective we need to repeat if not surpass some of the things we did last week."

North Wales come to York after a weekend off, having been knocked out of the Challenge Cup in the previous round by a Gloucestershire All Golds side who have raised a few eyebrows this term.

Crusaders have also lost their two league games to date, to Keighley and Doncaster, making their League One Cup win at Bootham Crescent their only success this year.

Asked if those results made York favourites, Ford said: "North Wales performed well against Doncaster in the second half and will want to build on that.

"We want to build on our performance against Rochdale.

"As regards who's favourites, that won't come into our consideration. What we're considering is our performance. We'll need to work hard and put in a top-drawer performance.

Crusaders coach Mike Grady said of their 44-8 defeat to Donny: “We struggled in the first half. We had a good talking to and addressed the issues in the second half and we need to take that into the game against York.

“They had a fantastic cup win against Rochdale so they’ll be full of confidence. We need to be on the ball.”

Grady has since signed prop Jack Francis on loan from Rochdale but he pulled up in training and won't play, joining 10 others apparently in the treatment room, Matt Davies, Alex Thompson, Warren Thompson and Danny Price among them. Andrew and Rick Joy have also left the club.

Ryan Millington and Alex Davidson look set to return.

Grady told the club's website: "With no cup game we’ve had a week off and that’s given us a chance to train hard and have a good look at what’s gone wrong.

“I think we’ve been able to work out some of the issues that we’ve faced and we’re now focused on the York game.”
