Man of the match: Joe Porter – the way he ran hard and direct as soon as he entered the fray highlighted what was missing in York’s first-half performance.

Referee: Andy Sweet (Castleford) – missed a few blatant things but there have been worse refereeing displays and it didn’t really affect the result.

Penalty count: 10-9

Half-time: 20-0

Weather: rain before the start and again as the game kicked off made a heavy pitch heavier, an old-fashioned match in the mud the outcome.

Attendance: 766

Moment of the match: there were fears Barrow would run away with the game in the second half after their first-half dominance but the fact York showed they were a match for the big-spending Raiders for the next half-hour was a plus point.

Gaffe of the match: there were some daft penalties and some pricey knock-ons but not matching Barrow’s hard running in the first half was the biggest mistake.

Gamebreaker: When Barrow, 20-0 up at the interval, held out for four consecutive sets on their line during York’s best spell of the second half, it was clear there would be no way back for the Knights.

Match rating: a heavy pitch and heavy going, especially for the hardy York supporters who made the long journey to Barrow for an evening kick off and had little to cheer other than an improved second-half showing.
