GREAT Britain legend Adrian Morley heads up the latest list of rugby league royalty to get involved in York's battle of East v West - when he will go on opposite sides to Robbie Hunter-Paul.

Six-time Super League winner Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Ikram Butt, the first-ever south Asian to represent England in either code of rugby, and York's very own international star Peter Fox, the winger who now plays for Newcastle, will also be there.

Bank Holiday Tuesday's special match - arranged to raise funds for charity in memory of York RL legend Stuart Evans and his late wife Jackie - will also be featured on TV programme Rugby AM.

Organiser Leigh Paul-Rientoul said of the big-name attendees: "It's great. It's going to pull in a lot more people and raise more money, which is a huge thing for us.

"Adrian Morley hasn't long retired and is now coaching in Leeds' academy. To now have Britain's most-capped player involved, someone who has won titles in Australia and England, it's just brilliant for us."

Hunter-Paul, the former Bradford Bulls and New Zealand great and current BBC pundit, had already confirmed his attendance, when it was revealed Super League referee Ben Thaler would take the whistle.

Hunter-Paul and Morley, along with Jones-Buchanan, have got involved via Rugby AM, of which York-based businessman Gary Dickenson is a director.

Not only will they stage a question-and-answer session with Rugby AM presenter Alex Simmons but they will also now mentor the two teams - Morley assisting West coach Paul Rientoul and Hunter-Paul going alongside East boss George Elliott, the ex-Leeds and York City Knights threequarter.

The match itself - dubbed the "State of Yorigin", a take on Australia's annual State of Origin humdingers - sees York Acorn and York Lokomotive join forces on the west side of the river, with Heworth and New Earswick All Blacks doing likewise on the east. Selby Warriors will feature in the Heworth and All Blacks camp.

It kicks off at 1.30pm on Tuesday, at York RUFC's Clifton Park.

A four-figure crowd is expected.

Prop star Morley, the first Brit to win rugby league's "trifecta" of Challenge Cup plus championships in both England and Australia, played for Leeds, Sydney Roosters, Bradford, Warrington and Salford in a stellar 20-year career. He is the most capped GB/England player of all time.

Leeds favourite Jones-Buchanan, 35, was a star of the Rhinos' golden era, winning 15 caps to boot.

Former Acorn junior Fox, meanwhile, played six times for England, scoring seven tries, including memorable finishes against New Zealand and Australia in the 2009 Four Nations.

Having come through Leeds' academy, his career had been launched at hometown club York City Knights, where he bagged 40 tries in 44 appearances before heading to Super League with Wakefield and Hull KR.

Paul-Rientoul, Acorn's head coach, said: "I've met Robbie Hunter-Paul before when he did Acorn's presentation night two years go.

"To have him and Adrian Morley involved like this is brilliant. It's great that Foxy is coming too.

"They'll be helping me and George out and giving motivational speeches and things like that. They're making a feature out of it for Rugby AM - Morley against Hunter-Paul.

"I've spoken a fair bit to George. From our perspective, we want to make sure it's a good game and give the spectators a cracking match to watch.

"We want the players to take it seriously but have fun.

"The whole thing could be great for York & District ARL, something Stuart Evans was passionate about."

Evans, the award-winning match official, rugby league administrator and well-known Knights fan and historian, died last month, aged 68, after a short illness. He is the only official to be named on the Knights' list of York RL legends.

Admission is £5 for adults, £2 for under-16s and free for U5s.
