YORK City Knights boss James Ford has backed the appointment of young referee Callum Straw for tonight's top-of-the-table League One humdinger in Toulouse - but warned he'll face pressure from the locals.
The rookie Wakefield whistler took charge of York's win over then leaders Rochdale a month ago, when the Hornets had a man sin-binned, as well as the Knights' victory at Doncaster back in March, when the Dons had two yellow-carded.
"There will be a lot of pressure on the referee from the locals," said Ford of the vociferous French fans.
"You just have to look at some of the rubbish that comes out of the Catalans camp when they lose. You've got to be a strong referee to deal with that.
"I'm really pleased with the appointment. This referee was very good when we played Rochdale. He got a right serve off Alan Kilshaw (Hornets boss) at half-time but he stood firm.
"I'm sure my players will also deal with some of the rubbish that will come our way from the locals."
Unlike for the iPro Cup final loss to Keighley when they altered their schedule for a Saturday noon kick-off, the Knights have largely stuck to their usual routine of training on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
Last night's session took place in France after the squad flew over from Manchester yesterday lunchtime. They fly back tomorrow.
