YORK City Knights have suffered a sizeable blow ahead of Sunday's trip to League One foes Barrow after Jordan Crowther was recalled by parent club Wakefield.

The teenage second-row has starred in the past month on loan from Belle Vue, capping his time at York with a fine try while playing at centre in last weekend's iPro Sport Cup semi-final win, but he is now set to feature for the Wildcats in their Ladbrokes Challenge Cup sixth round tie at home to Toulouse, also on Sunday.

It has left Knights boss James Ford with mixed feelings - disappointment to see him go but delighted the 19-year-old is set for a shot at first-team action with the Super League club.

"Jordan's been called back to take his place in Wakefield's squad for their Challenge Cup game," Ford confirmed.

"I'm really pleased for him. He's come in and played at a really good level for us so he deserves this chance.

"His attitude has been exemplary - he's been involved in every session, has trained to an outstanding level and has taken a full part in the review processes, on top of what he does at Wakefield.

"He's been a delight around the club and we wish him all the best against Toulouse."

Ford would be keen for Crowther to return soon to Bootham Crescent but says that decision lies with Wildcats boss Chris Chester.

"We would gladly have him back but he's their player," he said. "He's a good player and I'm sure he will figure for Wakefield more this year.

"We're very disappointed as he's been excellent for us but at the same time he's got a chance at Wakefield and I hope he takes it."

The Knights are already without Josh Tonks at Barrow this weekend as he remains sidelined by his hamstring injury, while fellow second-row Matty Dale is unlikely to be fit enough to return to action in what will likely be a bruising encounter.
