A FLU virus has struck the Hull FC camp ahead of Sunday's friendly at York City Knights – and it might lead to a couple more big-name signings making their bows.

Hull boss Lee Radford cancelled training yesterday after a number of players were laid low, leaving him potentially having to rethink his squad for the weekend.

He had initially planned to name a starting 13 full of first-teamers but not including the likes of notable new overseas signings Frank Pritchard, Sika Manu, Mahe Fonua and Carlos Tuimavave.

He now says the squad – likely to be a 21 or 22-man party – could yet include "one or two" of those recruits, although it won't be confirmed until Saturday.

"I'm going to leave it quite late (to name the squad)," said Radford.

"We're waiting on a couple of players after they came down with flu. I cancelled training (yesterday) because of it as there's a fair bit going through the camp. Once one gets it, they can all seem to come down with it.

"But we've got an agreement with York and we're wanting to get as many fans down there as possible.

"There's a chance a couple (of the new signings) might be involved. If so, it'll be a good opportunity for them to get a feel for the tempo of the ruck in the British game, which is a bit slower than in the NRL. The quicker they get up to speed the better.

"We're going to monitor everybody in the next couple of days. It's not an epidemic or anything like that but one or two have come down with flu and we're going to do what's right by them.

"It will probably increase the chances of a new signing or two playing if a couple of other first-team contenders aren't available."
