LEEDS Rhinos star Jamie Jones-Buchanan has been confirmed as compere for York City Knights' big sportsman's dinner next month - in addition to the main attraction that is rugby league legend Jamie Peacock.

Peacock, a Leeds, Great Britain and England superstar who hung up his boots at the end of last season in which the Rhinos won the treble of Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and Super League Grand Final glory, will be the guest speaker on the night.

And Jones-Buchanan, who already does a fair amount of media work not least with Leeds-based television programme RugbyAM, has come on board as host.

Knights director Neil Jennings, one of the main organisers of the event, said: "It should be a great night. Jamie Peacock agreed to be guest speaker and we were trying to find a good compere and thought of Jamie Jones-Buchanan. He does a lot of that kind of work already outside of his playing commitments - and he'll have a few stories on JP as well.

"The idea of the evening is to organise something for the rugby league public of York and get people together for a good night along with Jamie Peacock, who is obviously a legend of the game.

"We've got our friendlies lined up against Hull and Castleford at Bootham Crescent in January as well, and it will all hopefully raise money and profile for the club as we look forward to an exciting 2016 season."

Now 38, prop idol Peacock has won every honour in the domestic game, including a previous treble with Bradford Bulls back in 2003, the same year in which he was named Super League's Man of Steel.

He racked up a mammoth 553 games in a 17-year top-flight career, including a record 11 Grand Final appearances, with a record nine wins.

Second-row Jones-Buchanan, 34, half-brother of Knights recruit Austin Buchanan, is also a highly decorated England international having played his entire career with the Rhinos, totalling more than 420 appearances since making his debut back in 1999. He sat out the end of last season after rupturing a quad tendon in the Challenge Cup semi-final.

The sportsman's dinner, which includes a three-course meal, auction and raffle of rugby league memorabilia, will be held at the Park Inn Hotel in York on Friday, January 29.

Individual tickets cost £35, while a table of ten is priced £320. The dress code is lounge suits.

About 150 tickets have already been sold - with little publicity - and the club are hoping to sell out the 220 capacity, with funds raised boosting club coffers.

The event follows the team's pre-season home fixtures against Hull and Castleford on Sunday, January 3, and Friday, January 22, respectively, and the away game at Featherstone Rovers on Thursday, January 14.
