RUGBY league’s governing body say they are monitoring “with concern” the community stadium saga that has left York City Knights homeless.

The Knights’ first “home” friendly of 2015 was played in Doncaster last Sunday, after the council, amid wrangling over the new ground, pulled plans for the club to use Bootham Crescent.

Their next, against partner club Castleford on January 30, will now be at the Tigers’ ground, but the planned charity friendly against York Select is up in the air.

The Rugby Football League say they are keeping a watching brief - but gave no indication whether they would get directly involved in the future if the situation was not resolved.

An RFL spokesman said: “We are being kept up to date on the situation on a regular basis.

“It’s clearly a matter for concern.

“As it stands, it remains a matter for the club to resolve with the council and other partners involved in the community stadium project.”

The Knights begin their competitive season on the road - they were drawn away to London Skolars in the League Cup first round on March 1 and begin the League One campaign with two away games. Their first home match of the season is on April 19, barring a home draw in the Challenge Cup third round in March.
