YORK City Knights' stunning 40-0 whitewash of arch-rivals Hunslet Hawks has earned further plaudits - with almost half the starting line-up named in the Kingstone Press Championship One Team of the Week.

Stand-off Pat Smith leads the super sextet, being named the division's Player of the Week, having played a key role in toppling the league leaders.

Every week each coach in both Kingstone Press Championship competitions is contacted to help produce the awards, along with press reports.

Knights boss Gary Thornton said: “We had a very dominant pack and, combined with Jack Lee’s distribution, that allowed Pat to create, keep us organised and make sure we stuck to the game plan.

“He was very instrumental for us. He directed us well and came up with a special individual play to put Jonny Presley in for his try.

“We’ve copped a bit of flak in the past few weeks, but our players were excellent to a man against Hunslet. However, we know there’s still a long way to go and our feet are firmly on the ground.”

Ben Reynolds, who pipped Smith to The Press man of the match award, is also named in the Team of the Week, as are prop Brad Brennan, another Press man of the match contender, winger James Saltonstall, hooker Lee and second-row Ryan Mallinder.
