YORK City Knights have come in for more Kingstone Press Championship One plaudits after full-back James Haynes was named the division's Player of the Week.

The 25-year-old becomes the second York player to take the accolade this term, following scrum-half Jonny Presley, who was nominated after his four-try haul in the big win over South Wales last month.

Haynes was The Press' man of the match in the Knights' Good Friday win at Gateshead Thunder, when Gary Thornton's charges held on for a dramatic 30-26 victory which got their title tilt back on track after two defeats.

Head coach Thornton said: "James was outstanding in everything he did.

"He was safe at the back and returned the ball really well to get us on the front foot, and then when Gateshead threw everything at us in the second half he was safe under the high ball.

"James also took over the captaincy when (hooker) Jack Lee was spelled, and, when we needed some cool heads, he provided that for us. His leadership qualities were fantastic."

In a further boost for the Knights, centre James Saltonstall was named in the Championship One Team of the Week after a fine debut on loan from Warrington.
