MARTIN Foyle is hoping Stevenage still have a play-off hangover when they take on his York City side in the FA Trophy final at Wembley tomorrow.

The Minstermen manager believes Borough’s last minute extra-time loss at Cambridge United in the Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final on Monday could still be playing in the minds of their squad ahead of the non-League knockout showpiece.

Foyle says his players have been working hard all week in training and plan to take the game to their fancied opponents.

“They are a big and organised side. I thought they were by far the best, alongside Burton, in the league and we have got our hands full,” he said.

“They are without Scott Laird and Mitchell Cole and, after their game at Cambridge, they are probably very defeatist.

“They will be down in the dumps and hopefully we can capitalise.

“We have got to start with a tempo. We can’t showboat and play across the back.

“We have to be positive and go forward and take the game to them.

“The first goal is very important and we are going to go looking for it. It would be fantastic to see York City score at Wembley and it would be all the better if it was the winning goal.”

Foyle has now picked his 11 for the final and has told the players – admitting there were some “dejected faces” in the camp from those who had failed to make the final cut.

He added: “The majority knew the team and, unfortunately, we are not a team that can turn up at Wembley and name the selections. We have got to do a lot of work.

“I must give credit to the players who have worked very hard and, yesterday, we did the hardest bit and finalised the 11. There were one or two dejected faces. I have tried to speak to them and explain the reasons. You do take it personally but it is part of the job.”
