A ROYAL visit to an idyllic secret hideaway has been uncovered by a group of Lewisham schoolchildren. Pupils from Pendragon Special Needs School met Princess Anne and Anneka Rice at the Noah's Ark Children's Venture in Macaroni Wood on April 27. Macaroni Wood is a well-kept secret of idyllic woodland set in rural Gloucestershire and largely funded by Lewisham Council.
It runs various activities for organisations working with inner-city young people and adults to give them a change from the stresses of urban life. Princess Anne looked round the site and watched activities such as pony and trap driving for disabled users and received flowers from 12-year-old Pendragon pupil Krystie Rogers.
Head of Lewisham Council's community sector Andrew Spencer said: "She seemed very interested in the children's activities and recognised the importance for children from inner-city areas like Lewisham to get out to the peace and space of the countryside."
