VANDALISED garages on a Charlton estate could be demolished, said Greenwich Council. The possible move follows year-long pressure from Bob Dean, co-chairman of Charlton Area Forum about the state of the garages on The Heights estate off Charlton Church Lane.
The eight garages, including their damaged asbestos roofing, stand between the back of homes in The Heights and Charlton Athletic Football Club's ground. They have been so badly damaged by child vandals they are unusable, said Mr Dean.
A Greenwich Council spokesman said: "We obviously realise there is a problem and are preparing a review which is nearly complete and which will be going to housing committee shortly. The garages are being considered for demolition which we understand would be a cheaper option to having them repaired".
The spokesman also explained that environmental health officers have said there is no danger from the asbestos roofing because it is in the open air.
