RELEASED midfielder Stuart Elliott is planning a return to York City next season with a rival Blue Square Premier club.
Elliott, 30, has told The Press two sides from City's division have already contacted the former Newcastle reserve after learning of his free agent status.
Northwich Victoria - the club Elliott left to sign for City last summer - could also renew their interest after trying to lure him back to Wincham Park during the January transfer window.
Elliott said: "I feel I'm good enough to carry on playing at Conference level without a shadow of doubt. It's up to Conference managers whether they want me, but I was contacted by two within a day of being released.
"Football's all about opinions and I won't get disappointed about one man's view, nor will being contacted by two clubs lead me to thinking I'm a superstar. I know what I can do and I can certainly do it at Conference level."
Elliott suspected the writing was on the wall for him at KitKat Crescent when City boss Colin Walker gave him the go ahead to join Northwich on loan at the turn of the year. The flame-haired midfielder decided to stay with the Minstermen, but admitted he would be interested in talking to Northwich now.
He said: "I haven't spoken to them yet but they have done really well to secure safety in the division and I would like to talk in the future if they are interested.
"I knew what was coming at York. I'm not a naive kid and I'm old enough to realise that if you are offered the chance to go out on loan at an important stage of the season like January, it gives you an indication of what might be around the corner.
"I didn't stay at York to prove anybody wrong. I'm just a professional with professional pride and I wanted to do the best I possibly could. Likewise, I still wanted to play on Tuesday and today even though I knew the situation.
"I would have still given 100 per cent but I fully understand the reason for playing the young lads.
"They have done well and hopefully it will have given them the chance to win contracts."
Elliott leaves KitKat Crescent having been sent off in his first and last appearances with the club. He played 46 games in total and scored three goals but admitted he was disappointed to be moving on after just one season.
The Newcastle-based Elliott added: "I was hoping I could build a career and stay for a long time but a new manager came in with a difference of opinion and maybe there was a clash of personalities but that's what happens.
"You're flavour of the month one minute and not the next. That's football and I wish everybody all the best at the club."

...unless he's suspended following a sending-off or dropped after playing a cr*p pass that's dropped his team mates right in it.
