Seventh season will be heaven for York City stalwart Daniel Parslow

THERE was never any doubt in Daniel Parslow’s mind that he would sign a new contract at York City.

The long-serving defender, about to go into his seventh season at Bootham Crescent, put pen to paper yesterday on a one-year deal with an option to extend and declared he couldn’t wait to begin a new chapter of his career in the Football League.

The 26-year-old said: “It was just a matter of getting together. It was just a matter of coming across and sorting it all out. Six seasons I have been with York, going into my seventh, and to grind, scrap and eventually get out of the Conference – I am relishing the opportunity to play for this club in the Football League. There is the hunger and the desire to play at that level, having been released from Cardiff a few years back.

“I have been itching to prove myself and prove to everyone that I am a Football League player.

“I am excited, I want the season to get under way and to hit the ground running. I have had six great years here and I can’t wait for the seventh.”

York City chairman Jason McGill added: “I’ve known Daniel for a long time now and, for me, he is Mr York City. He’s got the best interests of the club at heart. He focuses on the game. If you ask him to play right-back, centre-half, in the holding role in midfield, he just gets on with it.

“You need 20 Daniel Parslows in your team because they make what York City’s spirit and courage is all about. He’s got the scars on his head to prove it and, as a chairman and supporter, you want to have players who will give 100 per cent for the football club, who are proud to put the shirt on. What a lad Daniel is.”

Great news! Deserves his chance in L2 and as ever I'm sure he'll take it.

Deserves it. After the final whistle in the play off final he ran straight to the supporters to celebrate. Top man! Also he the biggest cheer of any player when lifting the play off trophy as well (at least in the section I was in!)

Roll on August (summer is dragging now!)

Great clubman but not a football league player IMO, hopefully he will only manage to play a bit part in our campaign.

Great news I`m a big fan of Danny`s.He`s been unfairly criticised in the past when playing out of position.
I thought he was outstanding at Wembley.Good luck Danny, loyal players are hard to come by nowadays.

Its not hard to be loyal if nobody else wants you!! That said he is a great clubman and will play in any position, i just feel he will be found wanting in league 2 and makes far too many mstakes for my liking.

he clearly was wanted by the club and was offered his deal a while ago.
again a minority (YCFC115) seem to have a go at a guy who barely put a foot wrong, playing out of position, in the most important run of games in the club's history.
give parslow a break. he's a great player to have on board and i, for one, am delighted he will be with us in D2

Danny has had a very good season and deserves a new deal. He stood up strong in some very important games and his form, particularly during April and May, was outstanding. His ability to play in a variety of positions, is a big plus for us!

it must warm the cockles of danny parslows heart to have so called supporters like ycfc constantly on his back my god he,s been with us 6 years in that time he,s had a couple of month or so long serious lapses in confidence but honrstly you think know one else would be interested in him.If you really are a york fan get off the lads back once and for all eh its not easy to admit your wrong about a player but sometimes itsd got to be done, are you man enough to admit when your wrong.

Well said. Well pleased Daniel will be with us for a 7th season. I think he's a credit to himself and the Club. There's not much loyalty in football these days so let's applaud it when we get it. I've no doubt that he'll perform well up to League 2 level. Good luck Daniel, hope you'll be with us for a good few seasons yet.

Excellent news, was definately Yorks Man of the Match in the Playoff Final, he must have covered every blade of grass that day, he was immense. If Parslow had not been playing that day we would have been looking at another season in the Conference. Some people on here have not got a clue.

i'd have given Parslow a new contract purely for the wonderful way he beat both Pilkington & Kovacs in the air to set up Blair's winner at Wembley! hillarious, but superb!

just a few memories whilst out jogging:

It was City skipper Daniel Parslow, though, who headed Stevenage in front on 32 minutes.

The former Welsh Under-21 international rose highest to meet a Drury corner that hung in the wind at the far post and, then, in front of a shocked David Longhurst Stand, planted a firm downward header into his own goal.

York's Daniel Parslow, third from right, scores an own goal to bring Stoke level at 1-1 at the Britannia Stadium

That's all you've got from 6 years and over 200 games. Your evidence shows the weakness of your point. All players, at every level of the game, make mistakes.
