York City manager Gary Mills thrilled by club’s kudos

HISTORIC exploits by York City have pricked the interest of a slew of would-be newcomers, said manager Gary Mills.

The Minstermen’s recruiting master – he completed his first signing of City back as a Football League club with the capture of old boy Lee Bullock – said he had been warmly stunned as to how his side’s Wembley double had become a talking-point in the game.

Besides speaking to Bullock, Mills has also had preliminary talks with several other potential close season signings, and he revealed how all had been well aware of City’s Wembley double of promotion back to the Football League just over a week after they lifted the FA Trophy under Wembley’s arch.

Said Mills: “I’ve had the first chats with two or three targets and hopefully they will go even further.

“But what has also been pleasing is that everyone I have spoken to know well how well we have played and are aware of the plaudits we have received in achieving promotion.

“It has been amazing to me how much notice has been taken of what we have done and that’s also very pleasing.”

• CHESTERFIELD have signed centre-back Sam Hird from Doncaster on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old former Leeds United apprentice played 143 games for the Keepmoat club, who were relegated from the Championship last season.

Great to see "Chesterfield have signed...." instead of the likes of "Tamworth have taken on loan......" etc etc

well done Mr. Mills and all the staff at York City, the club belongs in the Football League and hopefully they can establish themselves and kick on, no reason why in a few years they can't be an established Championship club !
