York City goal hero Matty Blair named Blue Square Bet Premier player of the month
12:01pm Tuesday 22nd May 2012 in News
Matty Blair
YORK City forward Matty Blair was today named Blue Square Bet Premier player of the month for April and the play-offs.
Blair has been rewarded for an incredible run of goalscoring form as the Minstermen won the FA Trophy and clinched promotion back to the Football League.
Having netted the play-off semi-final winner against Mansfield to send City to Wembley, he struck the first goal in the FA Trophy final and then the winner against Luton Town in the promotion final.

Not really sure what else Millsy could have done to scoop it. Two Wembley wins/Trophies not enough??
Perhaps Luella produced some of her old tricks for Cox to get it!! :)

Thoroughly deserved for Matty, one of the best players we've had in years when you consider some of those who have "graced" the BSP league for us over the past 8 or so years (most of whom I've forgotten when I come to think about it)

Worth everything that has been spent on him, and a fantastic role model for up and coming sports personalities at our schools. Never gives up and plays to the final whistle in every match. Well done, Matty.

Like to see that Shower pitched away at the Triton Community 'Arena' first match of next season or perhaps the formidable 'Ewn Fields'.

im sure york will be touching the 5000 mark next season for home gates..with the succes we just had..our fan base is growing..i think a 12000 seater stadium would be more like it..to start with..lets hope gary mills stays and brings us even more success next season..

Meredith - if he does leave, would we get compensation for him?
New ground - I think from the off we all agreed it may be short on capacity. However, it is being built and it may be good for the club to put together a road map for its expansion... new stand down the flank, fill the corners in etc. Just a thought.

Not if he goes to Hibs - remember a bloke called Clayton Donaldson? I can't believe that we would have the same situation again. I think the compensation rule for 24 year olds only applies in England and that it's 23 everywhere else. Not that Hibs are interested, as far as I know.
Why isn't he signed up already?

BUT, the main business collaborators to this scheme, are certainly "blue-chip" companies who could afford some extra financial outlay and this could be the time to press them for assurances over future financial support, over developing the fully finished article. Fans of all clubs involved, must also have the opportunity to comment upon their wishes over how best to proceed with the initial plans and development of the stadium lay-out. eg. The combining of seats and behind goal standing areas.

I do agree that we should have a say on what the actual ground ends up like, standing is out due to the loan so it's important the ground is easily expanded if money becomes available in the future. I'm not as hung up on the capacity as some if it's easy to increase it in the future. I'm more concearned about where it is and getting the transport infrastructure in place.

duffy wrote:Agreed. Having seen the plans the ground looks easily expandable. The flank has space for a 2nd main stand and then the corners can be filled in. Personally, I'd like to see a road map for how and when this will be achieved, but this will come in time. The terracing is desired but at present not possible, however, time may change this.

The transport infrastructure is important too. A shuttle bus service from the city centre in conjunction with a local bus firm should be explored. Also, due to a lack of local pubs, this will be a good opportunity to set up a decent sized and equipped supporters club of a decent size.
Just thinking out loud but a Supporters Club joining the main stand and home end called "Bottoms Up" could be quite amusing and a real money maker for the club.
