York City midfielder Andre Boucaud joins Luton Town

York City midfielder Andre Boucaud has joined Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Luton Town.

Boucaud, who has played 40 times for The Minstermen since joining the club from Kettering Town last season, scoring one goal, has joined the Hatters on an 18 month deal. The Kenilworth Road club said the fee was £25,000.

Under the terms of the deal, he will not be able to play against the Minstermen in either the Blue Square Bet Premier fixture at Kenilworth Road later in the season, or any potential play-off semi-finals. He would, however, be eligible to play for Luton should the two teams meet in the play-off final.

City Manager Gary Mills said: "Luton expressed an interest in Andre and I felt it was the right time for him to move on as it allows me to potentially strengthen the team in other areas. We wish Andre the best for his move to the Hatters and thank him for his time at York City."

They seem to like picking our best players to sign. Lawless went and now Boucaud.
Best of luck to him at luton. We have proved we didnt need lawless so lets see if Millsy can do the same by proving we dont need boucaud.

I thank Andre for his efforts but he never reached his full potential here , hope Gary can use the fee to strengthen the squad

A couple of months ago he looked great but has seriously gone off the boil - presumably because he wanted out. Not consistent enough imo.
It will be an interesting few hours to see who's coming in. Maybe a couple of players I think and I'm hoping one of them is Jonathan Smith.

Well I for one am not really bothered because Boucaud had just not looked interested in playing for City recently. I dont know if it that was due to his lack of confidence or simply the Manager having a go at him. He had all the skill in the world, but with his negative style of play, we were going nowhere with him in midfield. Perhaps Potts or Challinor might be given a run in midfield against Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy. When we resume our league fixtures at Grimsby Town on February 11th, we will probably find ourselves outside a play-off spot, as several teams are playing on Saturday and Tuesday and they will probably overtake us, if they pick up points.

A warm weather dry pitch sort of player to be at his best. His pass out wide in the build up to walkers wonder goal will be a lasting memory for me.

Slightly miffed that he's gone to the Coinchuckers, but overall not too disappointed that he's gone.

I trust Mills has already got his eye on someone and that the Boucaud money will be used to get that someone through the doors into Bootham Crescent.

The Legend Of Keith says...

Flashes of brilliance at times but invariably he played the ball sideways or backwards too often. When we play fast paced, attacking, forward moving football this ore often than not became a hinderance.

Best of luck at Luton, I hope you have as much of an impact as Lawless... ie, not a lot.

Rumours eminating from BBC Radio York that Mills has 2 to 3 potential signings lined up.

York set to sign a striker before the deadline, apparently Boucs was originally on way to Scunny before they signed someone cheaper.

They're welcome to him, he was the weak link that broke up our forward play week in week out. Even better to have got money for him.

On a less vitriolic note, I hope his career takes off (after a disastrous spell at Luton), he certainly has some ball-skills and was outstanding on the very few occasions he played to his full potential.

Pretty unfair comments above - ok not at his best recently but was very much at the hub of some great football earlier in season

YorkCityLuke says...

I don't mean to be unfair, and I do remember him putting in some stunning performances, but too often he just breaks up play and stalls attacks. I'm never really happy to see players leave City, but if I had to pick one from the current side it would probably have been Boucaud.

According to the BBC website it was £25,000 we recieved.

Never really liked him anyway, didnt really impress me at all. Glad we've pocketed £25,000 from him though, dont think we need to strengthen though, potts should be given a proper chance!!! Hope boucaud has fun at the scum!

It is quoted on Luscum website that we received £25k for him. I think that is a bad bit of business, sooner he sat in reserves than potentially scored a winner at Wembley against us!

Lets hope he hits the not so dizzy heights as Lawless did when he went to Luscum and smashes his hand in a mad rage!

Rumoured that we have accepted a bid from Crawley for Matty Blair. Source says it's been announced on Talksport. Hope it isn't true.

This forum just shows how fickle some supporters are. Boucard is an outstanding player and WILL play at a higher level than this. He will be a real asset in the football league its a shame he knew he wouldn't make it with this team or board.

Nothing would surprise me with this secretive last minute board. The only surprise would be if we announced the transfer fee. This clubs board stinks. I'm sure I said this would happen again after their same performance 12 months ago.

Too negative, too often. Outstanding player when he can be bothered. Prefer Brown in the starting 11 over him.

Thought he was wonderful on the ball at times & could really hold off opposing players but this has to be balanced against his poor recent form & just did not seem interested in putting himself about.
I wish him well & that the move makes him a happier if not more effective on the pitch.
YCFC115 seems to have a personal issue burning with the board I for one support a board which supports the best manager of the last few seasons.
Hope the rumours on Paddy & Matty B are just that neither would be easy to replace in their current excellent form.
GM is correct in letting an unhappy player go if the departure can benefit the club & squad.
Cm-on City now what's the good news?

I cannot find any evidence for either the Blair or Paddy rumours. Crawley just signed a striker from Blackpool and Bradford have been leaking defenders everywhere so i can't see why either would prioritize these two

Exactly, get your facts right! Watch this space he will be 1 of the so called cheaper 3 options coming in!

I would also support a board that backed a decent manager, let me know when you find one around Bootham!

i'm with many posters above on this, Boucs looked good occasionally, but he's been far too inconsistent.
if you look at our other midfielders who've had regular runs in the starting line-up, McLaughlin, Blair, Kerr, Pilkington, Chambers, there's really only Ash who's had a bad spell, and his effectiveness and goalscoring record was always going to return.
Boucs just hasn't maintained that standard and i don't see it as a loss to the squad.
wish him all the best, I just don't think Luton have improved with this signing.

One half against Darlington doesn't mean that he is back! I don't think Chambers can stand the pressure of playing at home and goes missing for long periods. The penalty miss against Kidderminster added to the pressure!
Tonne in on loan as an emergency loan deal!!

This is from an article published on the official Bristol Rovers website on 15 December 2011.

"This week Charlie Clough and Ben Swallow have been given free transfers, I know that we wont be offering them something in the summer so it was important that I told them that so they can sort out their futures."

Doesn't mean he isn't coming to York but it means he has been available for at least six weeks on a free. It also means I had my facts right thankyou very much.

So if he was released way back then, how come he was on the bench last Saturday? He was contracted until the end of the season. He may have been made available back then, but the then manager Paul Buckle was sacked a short time later. New manager comes in, clean slate perhaps, gets on the bench, knows Mills is sniffing, fancies the move North and a fresh start. Mark McGhee agrees to release him.

Classy ball-player and link-up man, but if his performance on Saturday is an indicator, then he is clearly not up for the push and battles we will have to go through up to the end of the season. As to what has caused this apparent loss of form/interest, we will again just have to trust our manager in his judgement but best of luck to Andre and we now have the prospect of meeting him again at least once this season and hopefully, maybe two or even three times and can then just hope he plays like he did at Darlo!!
