FA chairman Greg Dyke has signalled his intention to visit York City's new stadium with the view to holding an England youth international there.

The Minstermen are set to move from Bootham Crescent to Monks Cross after next season with Dyke, who was a City regular during his student days at the University of York, looking forward to running the rule over the proposed 8,000-capacity arena.

Dyke, who is in his final year as chancellor of the University of York having held that post since 2004, was visiting the Heslington-based campus' Roses Festival with Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson when he made the comments.

He said: "I've not seen plans for the new ground yet but I'm sure we will come and have a look at it when it's built.

"We'll also bring our people because it would be good to come to York and I will be taking the message back to the FA that there's going to be a new stadium in York for them to have a look at."
