OXFORD United are waiting until the last minute before settling on likely switches in personnel to face York City at the Kassam Stadium this afternoon.

At the same time as York were accounting for relegation rivals Cheltenham, Oxford produced the outstanding League Two result of the Good Friday programme by beating title chasing Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 at Adams Park.

It was only the hosts’ third reverse in 23 games and was confirmed by a brace of goals from West Brom loanee Kemar Roofe, which sandwiched a strike by midfielder Danny Rose.

The win clearly delighted Oxford boss Michael Appleton, while his Wycombe counterpart Gareth Ainsworth added: “Oxford deserved it. They put the ball in the goal more often and that’s what counts.”

But mindful of how a good weekend result has been followed by a poor midweek experience, Appleton said: “There have been a few times this season when we have been good on the Saturday then not matched that on the Tuesday, so we have talked about freshening things up and making changes.”

Former Burton Albion winger Alex MacDonald returns to the Oxford squad for today’s clash in which a win for either side would go a sizeable way to securing tenure in the bottom tier.

Reflecting on the fight against the drop by the Minstermen, the U’s boss added: “It’s another big game, York will be fighting for everything and it’s one we are all looking forward to.”
