YORK City boss Russ Wilcox believes this afternoon’s Sky Bet League Two match at Oxford will be a test of which team has the most momentum.

Both clubs are going into the game having won their last two matches with City following up a 4-1 win at Mansfield by beating relegation rivals Cheltenham 1-0 at Bootham Crescent on Easter Monday.

Wilcox feels his squad’s renewed belief was vital in that contest and is hoping it comes to the fore again at the Kassam Stadium, where the hosts have moved ten points clear of the relegation zone after victories over promotion hopefuls Wycombe (3-2) and Carlisle (2-1).

The City boss said: “We’re going to Oxford confident and we spoke about the importance of momentum before the Cheltenham game because I think it’s a key word. At this level, it comes down to small margins in most games and squads, so momentum is so important.

“Hopefully, we have found some at the right stage of the season. Cheltenham haven’t and I think that was probably the difference between the two teams.

“But Oxford are coming off the back of a great win at Wycombe, where they scored three goals, so we are expecting a tough game.”
