EASTER is a special time for many people and, for followers of York City, the period between Good Friday and Easter Monday has also produced some memorable moments. Let's take a stroll down memory lane...

April 4, 1958 - Billy Fenton plays his final game for City in a 1-0 win over Southport on Good Friday. Having made his debut seven years previously, left-winger Fenton played 278 times for York and netted 124 goals.

A key member of the Happy Wanderers squad that reached the semi-finals of FA Cup in the 1954-55 season, he died on April 16, 1973 at the age of just 46. His name lives on in the Billy Fenton Memorial Trophy that is presented at the end of each season to the City 'Clubman of the Year'.

March 31, 1972 - Brian Pollard makes his Football League debut in a 2-0 home win over Rotherham United. The former Vickers Instrument fitter would go on to make 302 appearances for the club between then and 1984, scoring 68 goals.

March 29, 1975 - The largest crowd ever to witness a York City game gathers at Old Trafford as the Minstermen took on the Red Devils in the old second division. Jimmy Seal got York's goal in a 2-1 defeat watched by 46,802.

April 1, 1983 - Keith Walwyn is on target in a 1-0 win over Rochdale at Bootham Crescent. The match was memorable because it saw Denis Smith's York side pick up the club's 2,000th Football League point since their election in 1929.

April 20, 1984 - A John Byrne hat-trick, and a Keith Walwyn strike, propel the Minstermen to a 4-1 win over Halifax Town at home. It began a run of five straight wins that would help Denis Smith's side set a number of records.

Not only were they the first team in the Football League to break the 100-point barrier, they would also set new club records for most goals (96), most wins (31) and most away wins (13).

April 20, 1987 - On Easter Monday, for a 1-1 draw with Blackpool at Bootham Crescent, Ricky Sbragia dons the red shirt of York City for the final time. The centre-half would stay on at York, after 179 appearances and ten goals, as the club's youth-team coach - embarking on a spell which would eventually see him rise to become caretaker manager of Premier League Sunderland.

April 10, 1993 - A 3-1 win over Cardiff on home soil, thanks to goals from John McCarthy, Ian Blackstone and Nigel Pepper. It was the fourth game of a seven-match unbeaten run that would see the Minstermen finish fourth in the old division three. Alan Little's side would be promoted following a penalty shoot-out win over Crewe at Wembley just a few weeks later.

April 18. 2014 - The most recent Easter moment, Michael Coulson's penalty - three minutes into the second half - helps Nigel Worthington's men to a 1-0 win at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford United. It extended York's unbeaten run in League Two to 14 games as they pushed their way into a play-off spot.
