YORK City goalkeeper Jason Mooney will not be recalled from his loan spell at Alfreton Town to act as cover for Good Friday’s vital home clash with Cheltenham.

Due to the banned Bobby Olejnik’s red card during Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Mansfield, Michael Ingham will start against the bottom-of-the-table Robins, who lie four points shy of City.

With Mooney farmed out to the Derbyshire Conference club, that means City boss Russ Wilcox is poised go with no senior goalkeep er on the bench and is unlikely to promote a youth-team net-minder as cover either.

Mooney has conceded just twice in Alfreton’s last seven fixtures, helping the club embark on an unbeaten run during that period that has lifted them six points clear of the relegation zone.

While City tackle Cheltenham, the 6ft 8in shot-stopper will be preparing for a non-League clash at Wrexham 24 hours later with Wilcox saying: “I don’t think we’ll be recalling Jason back. Bobby is only suspended for one match and we have gone without a goalkeeper on the bench before so we will probably do that.”

Wilcox is also hoping to have defender Stephane Zubar and attacker Michael Coulson back in tow for the Cheltenham contest.

He added: “Stephane has been training since the start of the week and we’re hoping to get Michael back so they can both be available for the game.

“That would be great because there will be no more comings and goings from now on and I want as strong a squad as we can possibly get out until the end of the season.”

The City boss went on to reveal he has not given up hope either on striker Emile Sinclair returning before the end of the campaign despite his torn a thigh muscle.

“I’m not sure how long Emile will be out for,” Wilcox said. “We’re hoping to have him back before the season is over.”

With Shaq Coulthirst and Jake Hyde contesting places up front with new loan arrivals Josh O’Hanlon and Shaun Miller, though, Wilcox is happy with his options in that area of the pitch.

He said: “Shaq scored two great goals with his supposed weaker foot and Jake is in good form and full of confidence with four goals in his last five starts.

“They are looking a big threat and we’ve got to keep those two going knowing we’ve got good back-up from Josh and Shaun.”

Meanwhile, Cheltenham have appointed former Yeovil Town boss Gary Johnson as manager until the end of the season.

Johnson, 59, said: “It’s all hands on deck for the last seven games.”
