ON-LOAN York City defender Stephane Zubar will wait until the summer before weighing up his footballing options for next season.

The Bournemouth centre-back’s three-year deal at the south coast club expires at the end of the current campaign, with no prospect of him being offered new terms at the Championship table-toppers.

Zubar has been with the Minstermen since November but while the club are embroiled in a battle to preserve their Football League status he does not feel the time is right to discuss his future plans.

The 28-year-old Guadeloupe international has been free to enter negotiations with other clubs since January, under the conditions of the Bosman ruling, but said: “I’m focused on making sure York stay up.

“Then, I will go on holiday with my family.

“It’s too early to talk about what happens past that.

“All I can say is that everyone at York City has treated me really well so I just want to give them something back by doing my best until the end of the season and then we can talk after the Portsmouth game.”

City conclude their 2014/15 fixture programme at Portsmouth’s Fratton Park on Saturday, May 2, and Zubar is hoping his current team and parent club can both finish their campaigns on a high.

Despite last playing for Bournemouth in 2012, Zubar is willing the Cherries to fulfil their incredible dream of securing Premier League football.

Eddie Howe’s men currently top the table on goal difference from Derby, Watford and Middlesbrough in an incredibly tight tussle for the title and promotion with Zubar adding: “Bournemouth have done really well over the last year and it’s my goal to help York stay up and then see Bournemouth promoted to the Premier League.

“That would be terrific but there’s still a long way to go.”

City are still waiting for scan results, meanwhile, on the hamstring injury Wes Fletcher suffered at AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

On-loan Sheffield United striker Diego De Girolamo has returned to training, however, following his bout of food poisoning.

The York City and Benenden charity team defeated Stamford Bridge over-35s 9-0 thanks to a five-goal haul from Iain Dunn, other efforts from Jonathan Greening and Richard Cresswell and penalties from Andy McMillan and Kyle Hanson.

The match was held to help raise funds for Stamford Bridge’s chosen charity, the Candlelighters Trust.
