WES FLETCHER has "set the standard" with his two-goal display against Tranmere Rovers, declared York City boss Russ Wilcox.

The Minstermen manager has challenged his striker to "maintain that level of performance" throughout the rest of the League Two campaign following his match-winning efforts at Bootham Crescent.

"He's set the standard of his performance last weekend," Wilcox said. "He will be disappointed now if he drops below that standard. Okay, he's not going to score two every game - that would be great if he could - but he has got to maintain that level of performance.

"That's not just in possession, it is out of possession. The work he put in for the team has to be there every game. If we can do that we have got enough quality in the group to win games.

"I was delighted for him (against Rovers). I go back a long way with Wes. I have cajoled him, prodded him and done everything I can to get him going. I know his knee (injured last season against Portsmouth) is not 100 per cent. That has played a huge part in this season for him.

"Hopefully, part of that is behind him now and he can put in some terrific performances from now until the end of the season."
