YORK City will today lodge an appeal against Jake Hyde's dismissal in the 2-2 Sky Bet League Two draw at Luton Town.

The Minstermen striker was shown a straight red by referee Charles Breakspear after a challenge on Nathan Doyle in the 60th minute of Tuesday's Kenilworth Road clash.

Manager Russ Wilcox said: "I think it is very harsh. If you look at the reaction of the players, the Luton players are as flabbergasted as ours.

"Jake is more worried about himself getting hurt than injuring Doyle, so we feel there is a case there. It doesn't warrant being judged as violent conduct."

The City boss is keen to have Hyde - currently facing a three-match ban - available for Saturday's Bootham Crescent clash with fellow strugglers Tranmere.

He said: "The appeal will go in today and be looked at tomorrow, so we should have an idea by tea-time tomorrow. We will know then whether Jake is available for Saturday.

"It could either be rescinded, stay at three matches, or if they feel it is a frivolous appeal - which it obviously isn't in our case - they could add an extra game to it."
