AS York City look to pick up a vital three points at promotion-chasing Luton Town tonight, we've been hunting through the archives to remember clashes with the Hatters down the years.

Some of the Minstermen's biggest games over the last decade have come against the Bedfordshire outfit, and York City fans have had more than their fair share of cheers.

So, without further ado, let's delve right in...

York City 1, Luton Town 0 - Blue Square Premier Play-off semi-final first leg, Thursday, April 29, 2010

Claude Gnapka hit a post and Tom Craddock headed over the bar as Luton spurned a series of great chances.

They looked the more likely to get the breakthrough at Bootham Crescent but it was Richard Brodie's last minute goal - after he pounced on a Shane Blackett mistake and finished from 12 yards - that gave the Minstermen a vital advantage going into the second leg.

Chris Carruthers was the hero as York sealed a place in the Conference play-off final.

He poked home after Luton keeper Mark Tyler had parried a well-struck free-kick from Michael Rankine.

Adam Newton was sent off late in the game for Luton. York would lose to Oxford United in the play-off final at Wembley.

With some fans concerned after York had only managed to take a 1-0 lead from the first leg at Bootham Crescent, despite playing against nine men for sections of the game, York made the final at Wembley thanks to a late show from Matty Blair.

Robbie Willmott levelled the tie, two minutes before the break, when dispatching Danny Crow's cross.

A tight and tense second half finally fell in the Minstermen's favour when Matty Blair netted his employers £175,000 with a last minute header.

Ashley Chambers' cross was inch-perfect and Blair planted the ball past Tyler to send City into raptures.

So we'll save the best until last. York's eight year exile from the Football League ended in a dramatic final at Wembley.

Andre Grey sent Luton's 30,000 fans into delirium when firing the Hatters in front inside two minutes - a clinical finish giving York keeper Michael Ingham no chance.

But Ashley Chambers' spectacular equaliser levelled the tie mid-way through the first half and, two minutes after the break, Matty Blair netted the most crucial goal of his career.

He was offside as Dan Parslow headed on into the box but the flag stayed down and he fired in from close range as York reclaimed their league status.
